Global Teaching Partners

Yanique, Maurice, and Robert were recognized at the World Fellows Recognition 2024 by the University of North Carolina’s UNC World View program.

The 2024 World View Fellows Recognition

Yanique Salmon, Maurice Sampson, and Robert Kiplagat have all demonstrated extraordinary dedication to fostering global education, sustainability, and cross-cultural understanding in their classrooms. Their efforts were honored as part of the Teacher-Student Initiative, a highly competitive program that empowers educators to bring global learning opportunities into the classroom.

Yanique Salmon: Empowering the Next Generation of Global Problem-Solvers

Yanique Salmon’s recognition as a UNC World View Distinguished Fellow reflects her unwavering commitment to global education. As part of the Teacher-Student Initiative, Yanique has worked to integrate global themes such as economic sustainability into her curriculum at Northside High School in Onslow County. This year’s focus on Kenya aligns perfectly with Yanique’s passion for inspiring students to think globally and act locally.

2024 is Yanique’s second year in the Global Educator Program, and she took it upon herself to encourage her colleagues, Maurice Sampson and Robert Kiplagat, to apply as well, resulting in all three being recognized. In addition to her role as an educator, Yanique serves as a Global Champion for Global Teaching Partners, dedicated to fostering a more interconnected and inclusive world through education.

For Yanique, this recognition is deeply meaningful: “Global education is essential, and this recognition validates my efforts to inspire others. As a Global Champion, I believe it is crucial to mobilize others towards a more inclusive world, and I enjoy sharing what I learn with my students and colleagues.”

Maurice Sampson: Bringing Global Perspectives to the Classroom

Maurice Sampson’s inclusion in the 2024 cohort of World View Fellows highlights his commitment to promoting global sustainability and cultural awareness in the classroom. Maurice, like his colleagues Yanique and Robert, was selected for his active involvement in the Teacher-Student Initiative and his efforts to incorporate global perspectives into his teaching.

Maurice’s passion for bringing global issues into local education has made a lasting impact on his students, enriching their understanding of complex global challenges and fostering a broader worldview.

Robert Kiplagat: Championing Global Education and Sustainability

Robert Kiplagat was recognized for his outstanding work in integrating global themes like sustainability into his teaching practices. He was selected for the Teacher-Student Initiative through his innovative “Green Bucks: Smart and Sustainable Finance for a Brighter Future” project. This initiative empowers students to compare linear and exponential models of solar panel savings in both Kenya and Onslow County, connecting classroom learning to real-world sustainability challenges.

Robert’s recognition is a direct result of his dedication to using global education as a tool for problem-solving and financial literacy. His project not only raised awareness about sustainable energy but also allowed students to engage with complex mathematical concepts in a real-world context.

For Robert, the recognition was a powerful acknowledgment of his efforts: “This recognition means a great deal to me. It validates the importance of integrating global themes into education and inspires me to continue fostering collaboration and creativity in my students, preparing them to become responsible, informed global citizens.”
